Recruitment FAQs

Do you advertise your salaries?

Yes, we advertise our salary information when we post a job. We benchmark our salaries against the rest of the Charity sector to ensure equity and transparency throughout the process. If you have a question about a salary that’s advertised, please email recruitment@gosh.org before you apply.

Do I need to have prior charity experience to be considered for a job?

For some roles previous charity experience is essential, but not for all of them. If charity experience is essential, it will be stated on the job advert.

Will I need to have a DBS check?

Sometimes. For some roles that involve regular time spent in the hospital or involved in certain events, a DBS will be required. If the role requires a DBS, it will be highlighted in the role profile. If you have a query about the DBS process, please get in touch with recruitment@gosh.org

The role I’m interested in has an application deadline that’s a few weeks away. Should I wait to apply?

No. Our roles can attract high volumes of applications and on occasion we will close a position early. We strongly recommend that you apply straight away if you’re interested in a role.

I’ve missed the deadline to apply, can I still apply?

If you’ve missed the deadline for a particular role, email recruitment@gosh.org and we will check with the Hiring Manager as to whether they would consider your CV.

Can I apply for more than one role?

If you feel you have the relevant skills and experience for more than one role, please submit separate applications. Alternatively, if you’re not sure which role you should apply for, please contact us at recruitment@gosh.org

Should I include a cover letter/personal summary with my CV?

It is not mandatory to submit a cover letter/personal summary when applying for a job at Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. If you would like to write one to support your application, please do.

I want to amend my application, what should I do?

Email recruitment@gosh.org and we will make changes to your profile.

What happens after I submit my application?

Your application will be anonymised in our system to avoid unconscious bias. Your application will be reviewed either by the Talent Team or by the Hiring Manager. All applications receive a response.

Where will my interview take place?

If your interview is in person, it will take place at Floor 2, Bernard Street, London, WC1N 1LE. Our nearest tube station is Russell Square and our nearest step free station is Kings Cross/St Pancras International.

The charity offices are not located in the hospital.

What should I wear to the interview?

Wear whatever you’re comfortable in.

What types of interview questions do you ask?

Our interviews are predominantly competency-based. As part of our commitment to inclusive hiring, all candidates will receive the interview questions 48 hours in advance.

What happens if I’m offered a job?

You will receive a verbal offer from the Hiring Manager. This will then be followed by a written offer letter from our People Operations team. We ask for your right to work documents, a minimum of 2 references (one of which must be your current/most recent employer) and for you to complete our Occupational Health form. If a DBS is required then we will ask for the relevant documentation.

I’ve submitted my application but I’m keen to get involved, what else can I do?

We’re always on the lookout for volunteers, you can check out our volunteer opportunities here.

How do I apply for a job at the hospital?

The Charity and the Hospital are two separate entities and have separate Talent Teams. You can view vacancies at the Hospital by clicking here
